(Kittery Point, ME) The exhibit runs October 11th to November 4th. Participating artists are Melanie Barash Levitt, Thomas Bosket, Pat Higgins, Rhonda Mann and Anne Strout. The group met on Monhegan Island at an art class three years ago and realized they had the common bond of painting and a love of the Maine Coast. These like-minded painters decided to continue the relationship beyond the class they took together and now continue to plan trips with each other. Their artistic processes have been facilitated and greatly supported by the words and hearts of the fellow artists within the group. This show reflects three weeks over three summers, working with and being inspired by each other as artists.

There will be an opening reception on Sunday, October 14th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Kittery Art Association located at 8 Coleman Avenue in Kittery Point.

Melanie Barash Levitt resides in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. She has been oil painting for the last ten years, and enjoys setting up her easel outside, “en plein air.” Melanie runs a studio and gallery in Jackson, NH where she offers art classes, runs a gallery of local artists' work, and does her own oil painting and printmaking. Melanie looks forward to her meetings with this group and talking about the process of making art.

Thomas Bosket, an instructor and administrator at Parson’s the New School, specializes in raw materials, anatomy and color usage for artists and designers. After spending a week with the group on Monhegan Island, Thomas began a long process of questioning why and how he made his work. He felt something about Monhegan was raw and wild, but was traditional and refined at the same time. This led him to choices he would not typically make on paper or canvas, and culminated in a series of iPad finger paintings that are filled with surprises.

Pat Higgins is a local art educator and artist who works primarily in watercolor. She is influenced by the ocean and the natural life found around it. Her work incorporates the beautiful days she paints by the coast in Maine and the items she finds near the ocean. Pat uses these items as metaphors for the “conversations and conflicts” in our lives, often drawing on the group and their meeting locations for inspiration.

Rhonda Mann is a local artist and art educator who works in any media she can find. Her love of the natural world and interactions between people often combine in her work. Rhonda lets her paintbrush dance with the love of observation and creation, which is evident in her colorful, dynamic pieces. The support and dialogue she has found with the other artists has dovetailed with her artistic interests.

Anne Strout is a full-time artist, working primarily in watercolor, acrylic, and encaustic. Anne is experimental in her work and lets her muse move her through her work. Her work is varied and modern, and is often based on plein air reality with a twist. Anne enjoys the energy she gets from her fellow artists when they meet, and channels that energy into her work.
