Jj Starwalker, folk artist, designer and Maine's only working Hexerei, is a traditionally trained painter of “Pennsylavania Dutch” hex signs.

Hex signs on garages and homes, as well as on barns, are becoming increasingly popular in Maine and across the nation. In addition to being folk art, Ms. Starwalker's works are true barn blessings or painted prayers, created and blessed in sacred space, in her family's tradition.

The signs can be painted directly on a barn or garage in the true old way, but Ms Starwalker also paints on plywood disks up to four feet in diameter and on muslin stretched in embroidery frames to indoor display. Custom commissions are encouraged.
