(Image: "The Great Blue Heron" by N.C. Wyeth) (Thomaston, ME) Over 300 pieces of fine art will be presented at the Thomaston Place Auction Galleries Summer Sale on August 25th and 26th. The art collection includes works by important American and European artists of the 19th and 20th Centuries. This auction will also offer a diverse selection of fine furniture, silver, estate jewelry, Asian antiques, Russian porcelain & crystal, antiquities, and carpets. Thomaston Place owner and auctioneer Kaja Veilleux said: “We have the makings of a perfect Maine summer auction, with lots of great pieces that were brought to Maine by merchant ships and gilded age migrants, plus many wonderful items that were created here. While it’s easy to participate in our sale on the phone or internet, I hope everyone will take the opportunity to come to our gallery and see these amazing items firsthand.”
(Image: "In the Georges Islands" by Andrew Newell Wyeth) The auction will feature paintings by N.C. Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth, Alexander Calder, Eduoard Leon Cortes and Charles Francois Daubigny. In addition, there will be prints by Picasso, Chagall, as well as two etchings and a serigraph by Magritte. An drawing by Andrew Wyeth drawing will also be included in the auction.
(Image: English Figured Mahogany 30-Drawer Apothecary Cabinet) Highlights of the furniture category include a Dutch secretary, an English apothecary cabinet, a Spanish cabinet, and a 17th Century Italian refectory table.
(Image: Russian Silver Items) In the silver category, there will be: a circa 1745 sterling tea pot by Boston silversmith Jacob Hurd (only one of 17 known to exist); a Grachev Brothers Russian enameled silver tea cup and saucer; a pair of ornate English sterling master salts by maker John Bridge; and a 1930s sterling silver coffee & tea service by Juvento Lopez Reyes. There will be many wonderful pieces of estate jewelry, including an 18K white gold ring set with an 8.00 ct oval shape natural emerald surrounded by 14 round, brilliant cut diamonds; a platinum Art Deco design handmade link bracelet set with sapphires and diamonds; an 18K gold and diamond collar-form hinged necklace signed LEB; and an 18K white gold link Art Deco necklace set with 573 diamonds.
(Image: Chinese Han Dynasty Wood and Lacquer Flask - Bian Hu) This spectacular auction will also offer an excellent selection of treasures from the Far East, featuring items from the Marvin Sadik collection. Art expert Sadik served as director of the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC. Highlighted Asian pieces will include: a Chinese Han Dynasty wood and lacquer flask (Bian Hu); a puddingstone top Chinese altar with 19th Century red lacquer stands as supports; a Chinese Qing Dynasty rhino horn domed brush washer with small beaded pot; a late 19th to early 20th Century Japanese cloisonne tray attributed to Namikawa Sosuke; and a reticulated Chinese celadon jade offering bowl with Qianlong mark on the underside.
(Image: Sunderland and Liverpool Jugs) The auction will offer several lots of Imperial Russian porcelain and glass produced in St. Petersburg for palace use in the late 19th and early 20th Century. There will also be outstanding groups of antiquities; early clocks and barometers; delft and majolica; Sunderland jugs; and Louis Vuitton luggage. The gallery will be open for previews Monday, August 20th through Friday, August 24th (between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm each day) and from 9:00 and 11:00 am on Saturday and Sunday, August 25th & 26th, before the sale. Thomaston Place Auction Galleries will also host an evening preview and reception on Thursday, August 23rd, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. The auction will begin at 11:00 am on both sale days.
