(Image: Book by Abbie Read) (Belfast, ME) Waterfall Arts will hold two free bookbinding workshops in conjunction with HANDMADE, the annual alternative/indie craft show and sale. At the first workshop, scheduled for Thursday, December 8th from 10:00 am to noon, artist Abbie Read will teach participants how to construct a small hand bound book using non-adhesive techniques. During the second workshop, on Friday, December 9th, from 10:00 am to noon, participants will learn how to sew a small book using the Coptic binding technique. Instructor Abbie Read, an artist member of Aarhus Gallery and a Waterfall Arts Board member, has been involved with all aspects of book arts for many years. She often incorporates books made from found and recycled materials into her sculptural work. Both workshops are free and open to all, though space is limited and pre-registration is recommended. Tools and materials will be provided, but a small donation for paper is appreciated. Please contact info@waterfallarts.org or call 338-2222 to reserve a space. Waterfall Arts, located at 256 High Street in Belfast, is a non-profit community art center offering classes, artist residencies, events, studio rentals and artist talks. Hours for the HANDMADE show are Thursday through Sunday, December 1st through 11th from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and by appointment. For more information, please visit www.waterfallarts.org. |
