(Image: Paper by Abbie Read) (Belfast, ME) Classes for children and adults are starting up at Waterfall Arts in Belfast. There are a variety to choose from, something for everyone. Linda Stec will lead a multi-age Wednesday afternoon clay class for kids beginning on September 19th. Stec provides guidance and instruction in shaping clay, glazing and firing. All levels, and new and returning students are welcome to attend. The cost for the twelve week class is $240. Partial scholarships are available by contacting the office at Waterfall Arts.
(Image: Ceramic Teapot by Bill Davis) Bill Davis will teach an eight week pottery class for adults and those over the age of 15 beginning Thursday, September 20th. The class will focus on wheel work, slab building and hand building. The first item to learn to throw on the pottery wheel is a basic cylinder, as everything comes from this shape and this skill. Each person has their own unique touch and the clay's response is a great way to find it. All skill levels are welcome. Cost is $200 plus $15 materials. Abbie Read will lead a Paste Papermaking workshop on Saturday, September 15th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Paste papermaking is a way of painting on paper to create decorative papers used in Book Arts. Acrylic paint is mixed with a special paste and is layered onto heavy paper, creating rich and unique paintings. The cost of the workshop is $35 plus $5 materials. In addition, students should be prepared to purchase the special heavy paper directly from the instructor at the workshop; otherwise all materials will be provided in the $5 materials fee. Waterfall Arts is located at 256 High Street in Belfast. To register, request a scholarship application, be added to our mailing list or for more information, please visit waterfallarts.org, call 338-2222 or stop by the gallery or office. |
