(Kittery, ME) After the successful exhibition “Save Our Bridges” at Drift Gallery in Kittery, which featured local artist’s works depicting the Sarah Mildred Long and Memorial Bridges, a local student felt compelled to create a new T-shirt to help raise awareness. The “Save Our Bridges” T-shirt, a fundraising project recently launched by Lynne and Alex Bailey of Graphiti in York, depicts an abstract image of the Memorial Bridge that was inspired by several photographs, like the special photograph taken by Drift Contemporary Art Gallery owner Ali Goodwin for the recent exhibition.

“I am pleased to see a young artist like Alex taking such initiative by using art to raise awareness. It’s important that young adults understand how powerful their voices and actions can be. Creating something that causes someone else to stop and ask ‘What’s this about?’ is a lesson that can’t always be taught. I’m delighted to see that a piece of artwork I created to help our community has spoken so strongly to another artist, especially one of such an impressionable age. His mother should be very proud,” Goodwin said.

Only 10 signed and numbered editions of the black and white photograph, titled “Memory Bridge,” were produced. They are 7”x10.5” and matted and framed 22”x26” for $195.00, with 10% of the sales going to support the Save Our Bridges campaign. Along with the T-shirts, the photograph can be purchased at the Greater York Region Chamber of Commerce. They are also available at Drift Gallery in Kittery or online at www.drift-gallery.com.

Drift Gallery is located at 7 Shapleigh Road in Kittery, and will be holding exhibitions throughout the summer and fall of 2010. For more information, contact Ali Goodwin at 207-438-0417 or art@drift-gallery.com. On the web at www.drift-gallery.com.
