In Monhegan Landscapes, Beers returns to his beloved Monhegan Island to create a light-filled group of land- and seascapes that mine a new trove of subject matter from this tiny, rugged island off the coast of Maine. In the second group, Beers turns his attention back to his extraordinary truck paintings. These bold, brushy paintings prompted one reviewer to write: "An old Reo or Chevy, hunched down against the oncoming night is an elegiac figure. It tells of journeys gone by with solemnity and hushed dignity." There will be an artist talk with Kevin on Thursday, March 8th at 5:30 pm. "Kevin Beers: Landscapes and Trucks" runs through March 31, at the Gleason Fine Arts Portland gallery, located at 545 Congress Street.
