Harold Garde Strappo Landscape

Exhibition, Artist Lecture
and Book Signing
CMCA in Rockport
(Sunday, June 8th at 2 p.m.)

Join the Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) on Sunday for a gallery talk by Belfast based artist Harold Garde about his exhibition "Harold Garde: Strappo Landscapes."

Strappo is a technique which Garde discovered and named in the mid-1980s. It involves the transfer of a dried acrylic paint image from a glass support onto paper or canvas. The resulting images have a lush lyricism that only evokes associations of landscape while remaining firmly rooted in abstraction. Garde is also a prolific painter and printmaker who exhibits widely. His work is in many museums and private collections.

Garde will sign copies of a new publication "Harold Garde Strappo" an illustrated guide to the process, edited by Suzette McAvoy. Also available in CMCA's Gallery Shop is the video documentary "Harold Garde: Maine Master," produced by the Union of Maine Visual Artists (UMVA).

The gallery talk is free with gallery admission. Admission is $5 for nonmembers, free for CMCA members, Rockport residents, and children.

Those attending the event will also have an opportunity to explore three other exhibitions at CMCA: "Lois Dodd: Directly Considered," "Light Plant," and "The Gleaners."
