(Image: "Stack Island" by Sheep Jones) (Belfast, ME) High Street Studio and Gallery opens the season with new work by Susan Tobey White, Sheep Jones and Julie Cyr. Susan, Sheep and Julie have all created work centering around the theme of Coastal Islands. There will be an opening reception on Friday June 4, from 5:00-8:00 pm. Susan Tobey White is a painter and sculptor whose love of Maine and the area she lives is evident in her colorful landscapes and paintings of people. Susan received her BA in Art Education at Southern Connecticut State College. Susan taught elementary art for 15 years in MSAD 34 (Belfast area schools) during which she participated in numerous arts and crafts workshops. Her work is in private collections throughout the United States, in Canada, Europe and Australia.
(Image: "Windsong" by Susan Tobey White) Sheep Jones (web) was born and grew up in Waterville, Maine. She studied art at the University of Maine in Portland. She works in oil and encaustic and has exhibited her painting in several solo and group shows and galleries in the US and Europe. In 2003, she was chosen as Artist of the Year at the Torpedo Factory. She splits her time between living in the Washington, DC area and in Belfast, Maine.
(Image: "Grey Rock Island" by Julie Cyr) Julie Cyr (web) is a native of Waterville, Maine. She has had careers as a professional musician, singer, songwriter and Registered Nurse. Julie paints at her home in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. She also has a studio in the coastal community of Belfast, Maine. High Street Studio & Gallery is located at 149 High Street in Belfast, Maine. Gallery hours in June are Monday through Friday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, Saturday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Sunday by chance or appointment.
