(Image: “Spectrum 12” by Jeanne O’Toole Hayman. Courtesy of the Artist.) (Peaks Island, ME) Richard Boyd Art Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of a solo exhibit of paintings by Jeanne O’Toole Hayman on Friday, August 3rd at 5:00 pm. The exhibit, Spectrum 2012: From the Ocean to Cornfields to Flowers, features a series of recent paintings by Jeanne depicting scenes in and around Maine. There is never one thing that attracts Jeanne to record her interpretations of the world around her. Hayman is equally drawn to expansive fields of corn, the solidity of rocks, the intimacy of a man-made park and the expanse of the ocean. All appeal to her. Jeanne will be at the opening reception from 5:00 to 8:00 pm to discuss her recent series of paintings. “Spectrum 2012-From the Ocean to Cornfields to Flowers” is on view, in the front gallery, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm daily through August 31st, 2012. A painter and printmaker for more than twenty years, Jeanne began to develop her skills at the Mason Gross Center for Innovative Printmaking at Rutgers University and has been honing them ever since. Unlike the technical demands of printmaking, painting gives Hayman the freedom to explore the subject through the use of complex color combinations and thick impasto gestures. Well known for her landscape and seascape paintings, Jeanne’s works are part of numerous private collections. Hayman currently splits her time between Peaks Island, Maine and her studio located in the Bakery Building in Portland, Maine. Jeanne is also a member and past co-President of the Peregrine Press, an artist run cooperative printing studio in Portland, Maine. Richard Boyd Art Gallery is located on Peaks Island at the corner of Island Avenue and Epps Street, the first building on the right. The gallery exhibits original 20th and 21st century works of art by established and emerging artists with connections to Maine, working primarily in the media of painting, sculpture, pottery and glass. An art studio producing hand made original works of art with a focus on ceramic art and pottery is located on the second floor. The gallery is open 10:00 am through 5:00 pm daily from April through September. Additional hours are by appointment or chance. The gallery is open until 8:00 pm on the first Friday of each month. For additional information, or for fall and winter hours, please contact Pamela Williamson at the gallery by phone at 207-712-1097, via email at williamson955@aol.com or info@richardboydartgallery.com or visit www.richardboydpottery.com. |
