(Image: “North Haven Island Dream” by Lavendier Myers) (Peaks Island, ME), Richard Boyd Art Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of a solo exhibit of paintings by Lavendier Myers on September 7th at 5:00 pm. The exhibit, “By the Maine Coast Edge: Intimate Views from Freeport to Monhegan Island” features a series of paintings by Lavendier depicting various scenes in and around Maine. Known for her use of vibrant color to interpret the world around her, Myers’ paintings are bold and passionate and express her reverence for the planet we call home. Lavendier will be at the opening reception on Friday September 7th, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm to discuss her recent series of paintings. The exhibit is on view, in the front gallery, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm daily through September 30, 2012. An artist and entrepreneur for more than thirty years, Myers was born in Massachusetts, and grew up on the New England coast. After graduating from Goddard College, in Vermont, Myers studied at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC. Myers moved to Maine in 1976, and fills fortunate to live on the very edge of the harsh yet beautiful Maine coast which is full of inspiration. She prefers the peace and quite of wilderness settings with occasional forays abroad. Her work is an expression of colors, shapes and textures found in, on and above the planet we call home. Lavendier’s artistic influences range from Van Gogh, to Horace Pippin, to anonymous Zen monks. Lavendier Myers’ work is exhibited locally and nationally and is part of numerous private collections. Richard Boyd Art Gallery is located on Peaks Island, ME at the corner of Island Avenue and Epps Street, first building on the right. The gallery offers original 20th and 21st century works of art by established and emerging artists with connections to Maine, working primarily in the media of painting, sculpture, pottery and glass. An art studio producing hand made original works of art with a focus on ceramic art and pottery is located on the second floor. The gallery is open 10:00 am to 5:00 pm daily from April through September. Additional hours are by appointment or chance. The gallery is open to 8:00 pm the first Friday of each month.
