At Wiscasset Bay Gallery through July 7th. The exhibition showcases oils, pastels and watercolors by the gallery’s regionally and nationally recognized contemporary artists.A highlight of the exhibition is Keith Oehmig's "Rhododendron by the Shore." The rhododendron, their soft purples and pinks flowers offset by the deep, rich green leaves, are set against the edge of the pond, with the reflections in the water shimmering beyond the shoreline trees. “Monhegan Twilight” by Guy Corriero, portrays the rolling surf off Monhegan Island, the setting sun casting a luminous glow on the ocean, while Lois Goldstone’s “Salt Water Pond” depicts a quiet pond at twilight, the dark pines ringing the still waters. Other contemporary works on display include interior and coastal landscapes by Michael Graves, J. Thomas R. Higgins, Don Stone, Diana Johnson, Paul Niemiec, Carlton Plummer, Tom McCobb, Janet Kilburn and John Gable as well as vibrant still life paintings by Geer Morton, Joan Plummer and Lisa Paige.
The exhibition will also include recent acquisitions of 19th and 20th century American and European paintings. Highlights include “The House and Studio of Alice Kent Stoddard,” by Sears Gallagher (American, 1869-1955), a vibrant 19th century watercolor of the artist’s home on Monhegan Island, and Jay Hall Connaway’s (American, 1893-1970) “Breakers at Low Tide,” which captures the rocks and surf off Monhegan Island. Complementing these works are several modernist pieces by Jason Berger (American, b. 1924), depicting the French and Mexican landscape with broad, loose brushstrokes. Works by James Fitzgerald, Paul Strisik, Stephen Etnier, Bernard Corey, and Aldro Hibbard, among others, will also be featured. For more information, please visit the Wiscasset Bay Gallery's website.
