The Shows Open October 2, 2009.

(Belfast, ME) Two new exhibits at Waterfall Arts open Friday, October 2nd with a reception from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, during the First Friday Art Walk.

“Empty Walls and Windows”, is a new project of Maine artists who have decided to step outside the conventional gallery system and fill open spaces around towns and cities with their work. The idea is to hang art all over the place, in windows, on empty walls, in nooks and closets. Waterfall Arts in Belfast had some empty walls and was eager to give the artists a chance to try this idea. All the work exhibited is for sale and the individual artists decide what pieces they will hang, with new work going up every few months. Artists currently showing in the Corridor Gallery include, James Fangbone, Lynn Harwood, Barbara Sullivan, Wally Warren, John Bozin, David McLaughlin, Abby Shahn, Robert Saunders, Dan Beckman, Alan Crichton, Stu Silverstein, Craig Becker, Norm Tinker and Ted LaFage.

The second exhibit opening on October 2nd in the Fallout Shelter Gallery features visual and verbal collaborations between artists and poets, part of the annual Belfast Poetry Festival. Karin Spitfire, well known Belfast poet and Portland artist Brian Reeves created an interactive piece inspired by each other’s ideas. The other team is Solon artist Abby Shahn and poets Stephen Petroff from Topsham and Mark Melnicove of Dresden, An anonymous found photograph of children’s faces is the departure point of their numerous and varied pieces in the show. Other artist/poet collaborations are on display at galleries and venues throughout Belfast. For more information on the Belfast Poetry Festival events, visit www. belfastpoetry.com.

Waterfall Arts is located at 256 High Street in Belfast. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 to 5:00 pm, Tuesday evenings until 7:00 pm and by appointment. For more information, call 338-2222 or visit www.waterfallarts.org.
