(Image: "A Cloud Like a Trumpet" by Brita Holmquist) (Camden, ME) No ode to Eddie Cochran or Blue Cheer here, but at Camden Falls Gallery we have found the cure for the Summertime Blues. It is through the vibrant new work from our established artists along with work of the many exciting new painters who have joined the gallery. What unites most of our artists is their flair for exploring multifarious shades of blue. From Janis Sanders’ use of large flat areas of azure sky to lock in a composition to John Schmidtberger’s Bayside scenes of carefree swimmers dockside bathed in raking sunlight and cerulean, blue tints predominate. Brita Holmquist adds a uniquely contemporary style to our walls. Swirling seas and clouds dance in harmonic simplicity awash with ultramarine and cobalt. Pattern and movement enliven her aerial views. Todd Bonita’s timeless small boat works’ subtle glazing gives them depth and tranquility. His piece Ocean Whisper has become a gallery favorite. Floating amidst turquoise and amber shimmering reflections, his quiet, almost invisible, brushwork allows the subject matter to radiate a calm gravity and secret life of its own. Amy Brnger finds a universe to explore from the confines of her studio window. Like Vuillard and other post impressionists, she revels in the play of luminous patterns on interior objects. The way light breaks down form, softening the landscape and beyond. The award winning young artist, Daniel Corey, continues to amaze viewers with his plein air work, transforming the mundane into the transcendent. His vigorous brushwork charged full of turquoise and aqua shades often contrasts with rosy under painting setting up a lively tension between cool and warm layers. Come visit us at Camden Falls Gallery to lavish in the Blue Hues of Summer!
