The Event is Scheduled for August.(Portland, ME) Barridoff Galleries' auction of American and European art will feature the more than 120 works by mid-19th Century Monhegan artists in the extraordinary John M. Day collection including the oils presented here by Michael Loew and Joseph De Martini and Luigi Loir (the Loir piece is from an important Hollywood collection). (Image: Painting by Luigi Loir) The auction will be held in an exciting new environment, the Maine College of Art's Institute of Contemporary Art. Partial proceeds of the August auction will benefit Maine art institutions. A portion of the proceeds of the John M. Day Collection will be donated by Mr. Day to the Monhegan Museum, and a portion of the proceeds of the entire sale will be given by the Galleries to support the Maine College of Art and its programs. Other consignments are invited.
