New Exhibit at Waterfall Arts Opening on July 27

(Belfast, ME) Many photographers visited David McLaughlin during his forty year residency at the Liberty Corn Cannery. Inspired by the complex buildings, unusual contents and McLaughlin’s passion for collecting and organizing, they created particular and personal records of his rare universe. In conjunction with the Art of Salvage exhibition, work by twelve Cannery photographers will be shown at Waterfall Arts July 27th through August 31st. An opening reception for the artists will be held on Friday, July 27th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.

The show, mounted in the Corridor Gallery, shows the gritty, authentic character of the Cannery buildings, McLaughlin’s functional and sculptural work and his extensive collections of still useful, often rusty, materials. Photographers include Eric Hovermale, Art Koch, Allison V. Smith, Lynn Karlin, Richard Remsen, Skip Brack, Alda Stich, Kerstin Engman, Peggy McKenna, Isaac Remsen and Neal Parent.

A generous grant from the Maine Community Foundation provided start-up funding for these important and timely exhibitions and related events. Business sponsors are Cold Mountain Builders, the Davistown Museum & Liberty Tool, Liberty Graphics, Harvest Energy & Rockport Mechanical, Darby’s Restaurant, the Lookner Family, Bittersweet Landing Boatyard and private donors.

Waterfall Arts is located at 256 High Street in Belfast. Gallery hours are 10:0 am to 5:00 pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 10:00 am to 7:00 pm on Fridays and by appointment. For more information please visit www.waterfallarts.org or call 207-338-2222.
