August 6th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.

(Belfast, ME) The Belfast Gallery Walk continues with another packed night of art and entertainment on Friday, August 6th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Along with a chance to visit galleries and studios, activities include live performances on the streets by local dancers, musicians, poets, and actors. Many locations will be hosting openings and receptions including Galerie Dufour, Aarhus Gallery, High Street Studio and Gallery, Roots & Tendrils, and Beyond the Sea. The other participating galleries and studios are: Waterfall Arts, Off the Beaten Path Gallery, Daniel Anselmi at 75 Main Street Studio, First Light Gallery, Brambles, Art Alliance Gallery, Belfast Co-op Café Gallery, Image Box Photos, Parent Gallery, Ben Hall at 960 Studio, Betts Gallery at the Belfast Framer, Dina Petrillo at The Post Office Studio Workshop, Susan Cooney Fine Art Studio, and Maine Farmland Trust.

Performers for the 6th include musicians Bennett Konesni and Edith Gawler as well as drumming group InnerRhythm. Dance instructor Katie Tranzillo will be leading swing dance demos. Bennett Konesni was raised by parents that placed a high value on the old-time fiddle and banjo music of family friend J.P. Fraley. During college, he fronted a bluegrass band that included fiddler Nick Reeb (now of King Wilkie). The Route 7 Ramblers toured the Northeast as the musical foundation of highly acclaimed Circus Smirkus. After finishing college, Konesni collected farmer's work songs in rural Africa, Asia and Europe during a post-graduate year of field research as a T.J. Watson Fellow. Along with performing as a solo musician, Konesni also plays in the Belmont based group, Free Seedlings. Edith Gawler will be playing with Konesni. Gawler also grew up playing music as a member of the Belgrade based Gawler Family Band along side her sisters and parents. Dance instructor Katie Tranzillo has been teaching for more than a decade and is known for her lively and fun sessions.

During the Gallery Walk you can participate in group dances (Shim Sham, Big Apple, Charleston), dance solo or with a partner, or simply enjoy watching the demos. There will be impromptu teaching snippets as well as open dancing to great swing music, from traditional to contemporary. InnerRhythm is a women’s frame drum ensemble from Farmington, Maine. They began learning tambourine rhythms together to play in processionals at their church. Since then, with instruction from several accomplished frame drummers, they have added a variety of drums, and many old and original rhythms ranging from the mellow, meditative tones of the tar, to the jazzy, upbeat syncopation of tambourines and bells.

The 2010 Gallery Walk Map can be found in many locations around town or by visiting www.artsbelfast.com. Belfast Gallery Walks are on the first Friday of the month from June to December and every Friday night in July and August. The Belfast Gallery Walks are made possible by the generous support of Bluestreak and Bangor Savings Bank.
