New Exhibition Opening and Artist Reception on Friday, August 24th From 5:00 to 8:00 pm(Kittery, ME) Drift Contemporary Art Gallery will be reopening on Friday, August 24th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with an exhibition of photographs created by Drift’s founder and curator, Ali Goodwin, during her two-month artist residency at ONDARTE in Akumal, Mexico. Ms. Goodwin, who discovered she had breast cancer during an artist residency in Berlin, Germany in 2010, was forced to close Drift while she went through treatment. Ms. Goodwin notes, “It has been a challenge, and I am pleased to be reopening the gallery. It feels good to be moving forward with such momentum.” (Image: "Circus Tent" by Ali Goodwin) Black and white images of a Mexican Circus, large format waterscapes of Yal-Ku Lagoon, an outdoor installation of “laundry lines” inspired by Akumal Pueblo, and a newly released stop-action video installation, form a collective experience of Goodwin’s life in the Mayan Riviera. “I lost time while I was sick. I couldn’t wait to get back on the road and these images are such a positive reminder that I am alive and there’s a whole world out there waiting for me.” The exhibition runs through September 30th, 2012. |
