Belfast Gallery Welcomes Abstract Painter(Belfast, ME) Guest artist Susan Finsen joins Susan Tobey White, Sheep Jones and Julie Cyr and will show her paintings at High Street Studio & Gallery. Susan's whimsical pieces will be an appropriate addition to the gallery that is known as a gallery to make you smile. Also see work by Blue Moon Clay Carvers, Gail Savitz, Claude O Donnell and Angus McPhail. (Image: Detail of "Gar Car" by Susan Finsen)
Susan Finsen says of her work, “I make marks. Big and little. Thick and thin. Dark and light. Smooth, bumpy, square, round, curvy, and straight marks. I draw inspiration from everyday things, turn them upside down and sideways, and build layers, using color, line, shape, and plane changes until the image feels interesting and exciting.” Susan Tobey White founded High Street Gallery. She is well known for her generous and encouraging teaching style, and offers classes and workshops in the studio. Her canvases of vibrant dancers and bright colors have inspired smiles and laughter, but new colors and emotions are emerging from her most recent work. Sheep Jones, an artist from Virginia, has been showing her work at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria and was chosen from 140 artists as Artist of the Year in 2003. Her whimsical figurative work and still life oil and encaustic paintings are a wonderful addition to the gallery. Julie Cyr, a painter from Portsmouth, NH, has had careers as a professional musician, singer, songwriter and as a registered nurse. Julie’s paintings of buildings have a very solid, strong feel to them while also having a sense of mystery. Her paintings of birds and animals can also claim the description of “whimsical.” Gallery hours are 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday, 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on Friday, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday, and Sundays by appointment or chance.
