Art2013: 18th Annual Juried Art Show at the Harlow Gallery

(Hallowell, ME) The Kennebec Valley Art Association invites artist submissions to Art2013, the 18th annual juried show at the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell. Art2013 is open to all Maine artists as well as artists with a strong connection to Maine. This year's jurors are Bob Keyes and Dan Kany, both writers on the arts at the Portland Press Herald. The deadline for submissions is April 1, 2013 at midnight.

Over $1,500 in cash prizes and gift certificates from area business sponsors will be awarded at an awards ceremony at the exhibition's opening on Friday, May 10 at 6:00 pm. The Art2013 exhibit will be on view May 10 to June 1, 2013, and is free and open to the public.

Original fine art in any media may be submitted, including hand pulled prints, photography and sculpture and fine crafts, including ceramics, glass and fiber art. Jewelry and clothing are not eligible. Each artist may submit up to three works of art. Entry fees are $25 for members of the Kennebec Valley Art Association, or $30 for non members, and are not refundable. Jurying fees help offset the cost of organizing and presenting the juried show. Decisions of the jurors are final. The Harlow Gallery is owned and operated by the Kennebec Valley Art Association, a membership-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

The deadline for electronic submissions is midnight on April 1, 2013. For a complete entry rules and instructions on how to enter Art2013, please visit the "artists opportunities section" on the Harlow Gallery website: www.harlowgallery.org. The jurors will do a first review based on the digital submissions. Artists whose work they wish to consider for the final review will be asked to deliver their work to the Harlow Gallery April 27-29 for a final viewing of the actual work.

Bob Keyes writes about the arts in Maine for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram. He began his career at the Central Maine Morning Sentinel in 1985 and has worked for newspapers in Greenwich, Conn., and Sioux Falls, S.D. He lives in South Portland.

Daniel Kany is an art critic, art historian and art dealer. His criticism appears regularly in the Maine Sunday Telegram and the Portland Press Herald. His published books and catalogs include “Robert Kantor: The Hope Series and Other Sculptures,” “Judith Kindler: Consume,” “Lino Tagliapietra: Maestro,” “La Ballata del Vetro Soffiato” and “The 2008 Photo-a-Go-Go.” Kany lives in Cumberland, Maine with his wife and two sons.

The Harlow Gallery is located at 160 Water Street in Hallowell, Maine. Gallery hours are Wednesday and Saturday, noon to 6:00 pm, and Thursday and Friday noon to 8:00 pm. For more information, please visit www.harlowgallery.org.
