New Classes Start July 23rd—Scholarships Available(Belfast, ME) Waterfall Arts has new classes for children and adults beginning the week of July 23rd and scholarships are available through a grant from United Mid Coast Charities. There is space available in all remaining classes and those in need are encouraged to apply for scholarships. Registrations and scholarship applications are available on line at www.waterfallarts.org, by call 207 338 2222 or emailing info@waterfallarts.org.
Two week-long classes beginning Monday July 23rd will be led by well known artist, Nancy Glassman. In the first, This Special Place, Glassman and students age 6 to 9 will explore the grounds of Waterfall Arts Montville inside and out, and make art that imagines what the place is all about. In the afternoons, Glassman will lead a watercolor workshop for beginners and those with some experience, appropriate for adults and young people ages 15 and up. The mysteries of working in this most fluid of mediums will be made clear with instruction in technique and approach, examples from art history, teacher demos and practice in the field. Also beginning July 23rd, Beverly Mann will lead a two week class for 8 to 12 year olds in her specialty, Mask Making and Mask Theater. She says that this class “integrates the performing arts and the visual arts while having loads of fun!” Also that week, Russell Kahn will lead his popular multimedia class for 8 to 12 year olds - Exploring the 4 Ps - Paint, Pencil, Pastel & Print. Classes beginning July 30th include the fun and colorful Animal Parade with Karola Bryant for 6 to 9 year olds, where children do hands-on learning about animal life and make animals come to life through their own creations. That same week, Russell Kahn will work with ages 8 through 12 in an afternoon class -Hand Building Objects – 3D Art using clay, paper-mache and found objects.
Glass classes in Montville also begin July 30th with a week long intro class in Torchwork and Beadwork with Deb Gay for adults and those ages 12 up. Belfast jeweler Lauren Veale offers an unusual workshop in Cuttlefish Cast Jewelry on Saturday and Sunday August 4th and 5th where she’ll teach a small scale casting technique using cuttlefish skeletons. Each student will leave with at least one small finished object or piece of jewelry. The last week of summer classes, August 6th through 10th, includes April Dove’s Yoga and Art for 6 to 9 year olds and Rock Band 101 for aspiring musicians age 13 and up led by Jeff Densmore. Marta Bernbaum returns to the Kingdom that same week to teach Advanced Torchwork: Beads and Sculpture. Waterfall Arts, now in its 13th year, is located at 256 High Street in Belfast and at 52 Kingdom Road in Montville. Scholarship requests are filled on a first come, first serve basis and will be processed quickly. For class details, times and fees, to register, request a scholarship application, to volunteer or to be added to the mailing list, call Waterfall Arts at 207 338-2222 or visit www.waterfallarts.org. |
