The Exhibit Features Dianne Schelble - Other Artists Will Also Show Work(Rockland, ME) Carver Hill Gallery will be showing 8 artists for the Columbus Day Weekend First Friday Art Walk on October 5th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Dianne Schelble will be featured on the ground floor, and there will be five additional artists showing upstairs. The work will be on view through October 30th. (Image: "Road View" by Dianne Schelble) Local artist Dianne Schelble will show her rich, abstracted landscape and still life work. Dianne paints with vibrant, opaque watercolors that she generously applies in a technique some might call Impasto Water Color. The hydromorphic quality of the water soluble medium makes Dianne’s use of paint seem even more alive. Her paintings literally breathe and change their surface reflection according to ambient temperature and humidity. Her colors are exaggerated versions of what we might see in reality - they speak to how we might want to remember them.
(Image: "Chair" by Dianne Schelble) Jon Kolkin’s amazing photo collages from a recent trip to Bhutan are also continued. The photo series is called “Seeking Wisdom… Impressions from Bhutan and Buddhist Philosophy.” Seeking Wisdom is intended to stimulate a dialogue about the complex interplay of factors that influence our thought process while drawing attention to the importance of striving to achieve a higher level of intellect; i.e., wisdom. The images capture hauntingly beautiful moments in the lives of local monks. Colombian born painter America Martin has created 5 new small works on paper in her modernist- influenced style. This is the gallery’s second season with America - her August show was able to be extended with the addition of these new works. Large original oil paintings are also available. The Upstairs Gallery at Carver Hill will feature gorgeous, abstract, metal leaf and acrylic works on paper and panel by Laurie Goddard. Megan Hinton’s sea inspired renditions of the gorgeous New England shoreline, in oil. David Estey’s abstract expressions in acrylic and graphite on Yupo paper. Adriance DeGroff’s small oils of landscapes and still life. Finally, Diane Bowie Zaitlin’s mixed media and encaustic works on panel. Carver Hill Gallery is located at 338 Main Street in Rockland.
