Call for Artists - Deadline April 15th.(Belfast, ME) Senior College is seeking all visual artists age 50 years (or older), amateur or professional, to enter the Festival of Arts, a non-juried art exhibit, scheduled for May 13 - 16 at the UMaine Hutchinson Center in Belfast. Last year, there were 135 artists from across the state, with over 900 visitors from Maine as well as 13 other states. The Call to Artists closes on April 15th. Please contact Rainy Brooks immediately for an entry form by calling 207-548-2502 or send an email to rainysart@gwi.net. There are no entry fees for artists to apply. Co-sponsored by the UMaine Hutchinson Center, the public is invited free of charge for all of the events associated with the Festival of Arts including: entrance to the exhibit; attending the demonstrations; the performing arts concert on Friday, May 14 featuring the Steel Rail Express Band; and to hear the special guest speaker artist Linden Frederick. Because art is enjoyed by people of all ages, and we can all learn something new, this year Senior College is sponsoring an from RSU 20, kindergarten through grade 12 children’s art exhibit in the meeting rooms at the end of the new wing at the Hutchinson Center. Senior College is extremely proud to have special guest speaker and artist, Linden Frederick. Mr. Frederick will soon have another exhibit at the Forum Gallery on Fifth Avenue in New York City which features his images from the Belfast area. Senior College is very fortunate to have this local artist give a preview of his new show. Linden Frederick is a realist artist who captures the essence and purity of every day scenes in every day lives. Mr. Frederick received his education at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, Canada; Academia de Belle Arte in Florence, Italy; and Houghton College in Houghton, NY. As Carl Little said in an article in the April 2008 issue of Maine Home + Design, “... Linden Frederick is one of the foremost painters of America's byways, highways, and backyards. He can make the humblest objects or places... resonate with mystery... and is a poet of the overlooked. The painter also has a passion for dusk. His ability to capture the most subtle gradations of twilight using oil paints is remarkable.” Schedule of Events: The University of Maine Hutchinson Center is located at 80 Belmont Avenue (Route 3 West). |
