(Belfast, ME) Waterfall Arts and the Belfast Farmers’ Market want to publicly thank the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation for funding repair and a fresh surface on the back parking lot of the arts center at 256 High Street, now home base for farmers and vendors at the Belfast Farmers’ Market. The bank’s generosity has made the space shopper-friendly as well as safe for the cookie-munching kids who tag along with both farmers and shoppers each Friday morning.

As construction got underway on the Front Street Shipyard this past spring, the Farmers’ Market realized they need to move and searched far and wide for an appropriate new location. It made all of us realize just how much both we and the city had grown in our years together. It just isn’t as easy as it used to be to squeeze in farmers, growers, foodstuffs and fiber art!

When locating the market at Waterfall Arts became a possibility, we were thrilled to find a home right downtown with great exposure and easy access for all. Waterfall Arts’ invitation has given farmers the feeling of finally being “at home” in downtown Belfast, and we loved the space from the first day. However, the cracks and potholes in the back lot were pretty obvious and rose to the level of being a public safety problem.

Bangor Savings Bank was quick to respond with a generous grant to help make our relocation across downtown seamless. The bank’s civic support made professional repairs possible at the height of the growing season when the farmers need to focus all their attention on their crops and farms.

The Farmers’ Market looks forward to making Bangor Savings Bank’s contribution worthwhile by serving the people of Belfast and Waldo County well with tasty, nutritious, affordable, locally grown food. We also look forward in our new home to working hand-in-hand with Belfast’s creative community at Waterfall Arts.

The Belfast Farmers’ Market is held at Waterfall Arts on Fridays from 9 am to 1 pm from May through the end of October. On the first Friday of every month, the market travels to Belfast’s Main Street block. For more information, please visit belfastfarmersmarket.org or waterfallarts.org.
