(Belfast and Montville, ME) The Belfast and Montville-based Waterfall Arts Centers for Art and Design announced recently that Kat Richman will be its new Director of Finance and Operations. Kat held a similar position at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport before a financial crisis led to a staff shakeup this past fall.

Richman joins Martha Piscuskas of Liberty as co-head of the organization that operates out of the former Anderson School in Belfast and the Kingdom in Montville. Piscuskas was named the Director of Programming in November. They replace Executive Director of Operations Giff Jamison, who is leaving his position to work closer to his home in Harpswell.

During her tenure at CMCA, Richman was responsible for human resources, staff scheduling, supervision of the Gallery Shop, facilities management and budgeting and billing. She also oversaw restructuring of the volunteer program and coordinated two popular events -- the annual auction and the Work of the Hand Craft Show.

The Appleton resident said her top priority in her new job will be ramping up the volunteer program. “I’m excited about the ways volunteers can plug themselves into what we do,” she said, from help with marketing and membership to running the gallery and assisting at events and exhibit openings. “It takes a lot to manage a big group of volunteers,” she said, “but there’s a lot of potential here to work on projects where they can enjoy what they do.” Richman added, “My recent experiences can be of value here at Waterfall Arts and I have a lot of energy and drive.”

Cathy Melio of Stockton Springs, an artist and former CMCA staff member, will join Waterfall’s Program Committee. Richman said, “Cathy will bring many great ideas to Waterfall Arts that will enhance programming for both the community and area artists as well.”

Elaine Bielenberg, president of Waterfall Arts’ board of directors, said she is in “full support of Kat’s forward-thinking ideas.”

Richman has a BA in Art History from Bowdoin College in Brunswick and has held office manager jobs at several businesses in the Midcoast and Portland.
