Opens Friday January 9th with a reception from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Waterfall Arts Belfast. This is the third year Waterfall Arts has brought together professional artists and young people to spend time making art related to a specific theme. This year's theme, "CODE RED" is a launching point for the artist pairs to address the urgent state of humanity and the world at large, through issues such as global warming and climate change. The Branching Out program has been very popular, resulting in new experiences for many artists and their young collaborators. Marcie Bronstein wrote, ”As a professional working photographer/artist, with 20 years of experience to share, it was a joy for me to be given the opportunity to work one-on-one, with young artists to create collaborative works of art. One of my favorite quotes, a Chinese proverb, states that 'Each child's life is like a piece of paper on which every person leaves a mark.' Branching Out is a program created in the spirit of that proverb, where an artist can affect the life of a young person, by opening their eyes and minds to ways of creating and ways to think creatively. Professional artists like me are given the opportunity to leave both literal and figurative marks... and inevitably, the children leave marks on us as well.” The project received generous support from a Maine Community Foundation donor advised fund. Branching Out will be shown in the Clifford Gallery at Waterfall Art through February 20th. For more information or visit the Waterfall Arts website.
