(Portland, ME) Ten of Maine's fine art photographers will be strutting their stuff through March 19th in SINGULAR, opening Saturday at the Palmina S. and Stephen F. Pace Galleries of Art at Fryeburg Academy in Fryeburg, Maine. The opening reception is on Saturday, January 28th from noon to 2:30 pm.

Curator Heather Frederick says, "Some photographers make portraits of people. SINGULAR is about portraits of objects—a single object, or a group of the same type of object. Take ten artists and you'll get ten very different approaches no matter what the theme, and SINGULAR is no exception."

From the totally unexpected (case in point: "Rodents of New York State" by Thomas Birtwistle and "Rolling Pin" by Rose Marasco) to intense and close up studies of flora (Sharon Arnold, Bruce Busko, Lynn Karlin and Mary Woodman), to the elegiac and haunting (Roberta Baumann and Susan Guthrie), the viewer will be awed, amused—and totally smitten. Including photographs created from film, digital darkrooms, and historic processes (David Puntel's ambrotypes), together with edgy mixed media (Shoshannah White's encaustics) SINGULAR encompasses the myriad approaches to obtaining the final image in today's world of photography.
