(Ogunquit, ME) StoneCrop Gallery presents its second show of the 2012 summer season: photo-based works by Lindsey Beal, Rachel Phillips and Heidi Kirkpatrick. On view through July 27th. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, July 7th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Heidi Kirkpatrick is a fine art photographer based in Portland, Oregon. Kirkpatrick’s work often depicts a view of the world experienced by women. Kirkpatrick has experimented with a variety of photographic processes including gelatin silver, cyanotypes, tintypes and albumen prints, transparent imagery on film and 3-D mixed media objects. Kirkpatrick has exhibited widely over the last ten years and her work is included in numerous private and public collections including The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas, Springfield Museum of Art, Ohio and The OHSU Corporate Collection.

She has exhibited nationally and has been published in numerous magazines including American Photo, B&W Magazine, COLOR magazine, and LensWork. In her series Field Notes, photographs blend the domesticity of home with the joy of wilderness, the natural world. The paper houses are built from letters, postcards and envelopes saved through the decades in old shoeboxes by her grandparents and discovered in their attic a few years ago. The images are printed on old envelopes collected from around the world; artifacts from the last centuries.

She has an M.F.A. in Photography from the University of Iowa and completed a Certificate in Book Arts at the University of Iowa’s Center for the Book. Her work focuses on historical and contemporary women’s lives and feminism. She combines traditional photography (analogue, digital and historical processes) with installation and sculpture to create non-traditional photographic work, trying to find a balance between concept and craft. This work often includes papermaking, printmaking and artist books.
