(Bath, ME) Performances are July 30th through August 14th. In 1871 as a commission from the viceroy of Egypt, Giuseppe Verdi composed Aida for the new opera house in Cairo that opened around the time as the opening of the Suez Canal. Aida is the story of an Ethiopian princess being held captive by Egyptians. One of the Egyptian generals is desperately in love with her, and she's in love with him -- but so is the daughter of the Egyptian king.
