(Image: "(500) Days of Summer") July 10th through July 19th at the Waterville Opera House. Ten days, one hundred films, fifty filmmakers. During the festival's ten days MIFF shows nearly one hudred films, representing the best of American independent and international cinema. The festival also spotlights some of Maine and New England's most exciting and innovative filmmakers. In addition, MIFF's Fireflies Program offers children's films from around the world as well as workshops and related arts events for children and teens. More than just movies, audiences also have opportunities to meet and talk with some of the people behind the movies - directors, producers, writers, musicians. Every year MIFF honors members of the independent film industry whose contributions to cinema deserve recognition. Honored guests and visiting filmmakers host panel discussions as well as informal Q&A sessions, giving the audiences an incredible chance to hear about the art of film from those on the front lines. MIFF's special guests have included Mid-Life Achievement Award winners John Turturro, Bud Cort, Walter Hill, Lili Taylor, Ed Harris, Peter Fonda, Jonathan Demme, Sissy Spacek, Terrence Malick, and Jos Stelling. Founded in 1998, the Maine International Film Festival (MIFF) is a project of the Maine Film Center. For more information, please visit the MIFF website. >link to the Waterville Opera House website
