At the Strand Theatre in Rockland on Tuesday, July 14th at 5:00 pm. This documentary film by Dale Schierholt takes you inside the studio and life of Belfast artist Harold Garde. Through interviews with the artist and observations of him at work we get a rare glimpse of the life of an artist. Garde shares with us insights into his influences, the structure of a painting and the conceptual forces behind some of the major themes found in his work. Whether revealing the struggles of the artist's life or guiding us through his own definitions of success, the charming and engaging Mr. Garde offers viewers an intimate portrait of a true "working artist". The Film had its' premier screening in January at the Florida Museum of Art in conjunction with the opening of a major retrospective of Garde's work. Known as a Maine Master artist, Garde's work is included in many significant museum collections. The Maine premier of the film coincides with Garde's latest show - Harold Garde: Out Loud, which opens at the Mulford gallery, July 15th and runs through August 16th. Filmmaker Dale Schierholt has resided in Owls Head since 2004 and has been making documentary films for organizations such as Princeton University, The American Repertory Ballet as well as the Farnsworth Art Museum. In 2007, his film Nevelson: Awareness in the Fourth Dimension was an official selection at the Utopia Film Festival and was exhibited across the US in cities that included Washington DC, Philadelphia, PA, Newport Beach, CA and others. In 2008 he completed The Farnsworth: Lucy's Gift, Rockland's Treasure, the story of wealthy recluse Lucy Farnsworth and her unusual gift to working class Rockland, Maine, the museum that carries her name. Last month, Schierholt's documentary film A Visit to the Star of Hope: Conversations with Robert Indiana had its' world premier at the Strand. This event is presented by the Mulford Gallery and Acadia Moving Pictures, and is free and open to the public.
