(Kennebunk, ME) This Friday, February 10th, River Tree Arts will hold two black and white themed events. The evening begins with the opening reception for Charles Gatewood's black and white photography collection, "Wall Street", from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The reception is free and open to the public. At 7:30 pm, the popular RTA "Movie and a Concert" starts as the acclaimed trio of Duane Edwards, Marc Chillemi and Tom DelRossi return to create an original live music score to the groundbreaking silent film, “Miss Lulu Bett”. Directed by William C. de Mille in 1921, this classic silent film is a journey for one woman who stays steadfast while surrounded by outlandish characters. The movie is the story of Lulu Bett, age 34, who lives with her sister and brother-in-law who have both turned her into a drudge and taken away her self-esteem and confidence. She hastily marries the brother of her brother-in-law by mistake, only to learn that his wife might still be alive. Lulu leaves him and goes back to live with her sister. The abuse by her family continues, and in fact gets worse, forcing her to choose the direction of her own fate. Written by Zona Gale in 1919 and on the screen only one year later, this film was considered modern in its approach to a woman's place in society. Gale went on to win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for “Miss Lulu Bett”. Tickets for the “Movie and a Concert” are $5. Refreshments include free popcorn and beer and wine will be available for purchase. River Tree Arts is located at 35 Western Avenue in Kennebunk.
