|Event title||Judy O'Donnell Exhibits in Portland at Heron Point Gallery|
|Where:||Heron Point Studio and Gallery - Portland|
(Portland, ME) Heron Point Gallery is pleased to show the recent works by Falmouth artist, Judy O’Donnell. Judy has been a professional sculptor for over 30 years. For her, the work is all about nature and her respect for its ultimate power. This new show at Heron Point Gallery however isn’t just about sculpture but an unveiling of her most recent paintings. Paintings that explore animal spirits and the sacredness of the earth and mythical stories of powerful spirit guides that take on animal/human form. The show runs through July 28th.
Her brightly painted Bees Series is her way of bringing into focus, on a personal level, man’s neglect of the earth. In her Swan Women Series, Judy has harnessed the power of flying things to convey the connectedness of the human spirit with the All Spirit. Her reverence for nature is closely related to the environmental needs for protecting the earth.
Judy earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts at University of Southern Maine and has studied extensively at Maine College of Art with sculptor John Ventimiglia and painter Janet Manyon. Judy studied sculptural design under Michael Shaughnessey and Duncan Hewitt at the University of Southern Maine. Judy is active with many art organizations throughout the state including the Oqunquit Art Association, New England Sculptors Association, The Freeport Art Guild and The Tuesday Morning Painting Group of Falmouth. She has won several awards for her sculpture including Best in Show Sculpture at the University of Maine Gallery at the Kennebunk River Club Show. Along with pursuing her own artistic endeavors, Judy served as an art educator for over thirty years, teaching in the elementary and high school level in both public and private schools and with a program “Art After School’’ which she began in her Falmouth studio.
