(Farmington, ME) The Emery Community Arts Center, located on the campus of the University of Maine Farmington, is pleased to present an exhibition featuring new paintings by Maine Master Harold Garde. Harold Garde’s People, Places and Things will be on view in the Flex Space from July 6th through August 12th 2012. There will be a public reception on Friday, July 6, 2012, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The vibrant energy of Garde’s new paintings comes from the striking simplicity and boldness of color in his figures and objects. His use of surreal imagery blends seriousness and whimsy to captivate the viewer. Garde began his career in the 1950s as an abstract expressionist painter, later turning to the figurative subject. His use of acrylic paint on paper and canvas convey his desire for, “the simplest, the most direct, the most basic,” the artist says. Harold Garde’s work appears in the collections of the Portland Museum of Art, the Farnsworth Art Museum, and the Museum of Florida Art, among many others. For information about Harold Garde’s work please visit www.haroldgarde.com. The Emery Community Arts Center is located on Academy Street behind Merrill Hall. It is open every day from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. For more information about the exhibition, please contact Sarah Maline at 207-778-1062 or at maline@maine.edu. |
