(Rockland, ME) Amalfi on the Water, located at 12 Ocean Street in Rockland, presents recent works by artist Kendra Denny. Kendra is a native of Camden whose work celebrates the scenery of Midcoast Maine. The exhibition runs through the end of May.

Kendra has been drawing and painting ever since she could hold a pen. In her hometown of Camden, she attended a special program at the Maine College of Art for high school credit. She went on to study sculpture and painting at Hampshire College and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. During her time at UMass, Kendra won three awards for her outstanding independent work. She also contributed to several group art projects, including the Kathmandu Project—a series of Tibetan Buddhist Shrine rooms, and The Art Discovery Center—a corridor of Asian murals on permanent display at the George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Since then, Kendra has continued to develop her love of painting and has exhibited work at various places in Maine, Maryland, and Washington DC. Over the last four years she has been commissioned to paint two murals and a series of signs for the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. Kendra has received two artist residencies and partial fellowships from the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont. In 2008 she was awarded a grant from the Reger Arts Foundation in Highlands, New Jersey to help fund her continued work Last year, her painting “The Model School” was featured on the cover of the first annual edition of The New Guard Review (a literary review published in Portland, Maine). Kendra began working in encaustics after attending a workshop at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. Her current work centers around scenery of the MidCoast region.
