Notes on Visions from the Land of DADA
kate chapin 2009-09-12 09:24:49

Hi, Daniel...

I have had you on my mind, but have not had a chance to write until now... Again, the patinaed colors and the depth of black in the abstract collage pieces are so delicious! What are you up to now? (I think we should send made postcards that we can alter upon receipt and then return to sender... what do you think? Let me know... :))

votre soeur de visions du terrain de DaDa,
kate
Saw your new show!
Thierry 2009-08-18 09:25:30

Hi Daniel,

Sorry I missed your opening but I'm back from PEI and I finally saw your "Redefined Shapes" show at the Belfast Framer gallery last night.

Because I liked your previous body of work so much, I wasn't sure I would like your abstract series as much.

I was wrong. Absolutely LOVED IT! Great composition as always, beautiful colors/light, solid presentation (wonderful framed pieced in the window).

I noticed you sold many pieces - congratulations! You truly deserve it. I can't wait to see what you'll come up next.

Bravo!

Thierry B.
Upcoming Solo Exhibition - REDEFINED SHAPES

Solo Exhibition - "Redefined Shapes"
August 4-29, 2009
Opening Reception Friday, August 7th at 5 p.m.
The Belfast Framer & Gallery
96 Main Street
Belfast, ME 04915
207-338-6465

Over the past year, my work has explored the use of found materials to create art that often combines imagery and abstraction. This solo exhibition presents my new body of work that expands his explorations into pure abstraction.

The concept for this show came about from his discovery of a set of old hand-cut letter stencils. I was drawn immediately to their simplicity. I found that by altering the stencils and adding other elements such as found paper each work developed other shapes and lines, removing any obvious image of the alphabet while keeping the focus on their beauty as \"redefined shapes.\"

I offer viewers an opportunity to reflect upon each work\'s individual qualities and appreciate how a simple discovery of castaway materials leads to ever-expanding artistic creation and contemplation.

I hope to see you there.

Daniel A.

Carver Hill Gallery Exhibits New Works

Two Gallery Locations Feature New Shows

(Rockport and Rockland, ME) Rockport exhibits Jon Kolkin “Equilibrium: Finding the Balance” and “Rhapsody in Hue” continues at the Rockland location.

A solo show of photographer Jon Kolkin, winner of Color Magazine's Spotlight award in 2009 will be exhibited in Rockport. Kolkin's work is intended to inspire others to challenge their own perceptions of "truth" about their surroundings—to look beyond their experiences of understanding reality. Featured are photographs depicting the delicate balance between the 3 realms of nature: land, water and air. Before Albert Einstein's Theory of Relativity, putting forth the concept of multiple dimensions invisible to the naked eye, Cubist Georges Braque utilized simultaneous perspectives to also suggest something beyond three dimensions.
