ARTIST STATEMENT:
Judy O’Donnell lives in Maine and has been an artist and art educator for more than 30 years. Her figurative sculpture is inspired by the natural beauty of Maine; she creates distinctive figural pieces by combining natural forms found in the forest and sea. These works aspire to show the harmony between man and nature. She expresses her Irish history by weaving Celtic myth into her work. Judy’s reverence for nature relates to the environmental needs to protect our earth.

Old Salts Gallery in Camden Exhibits Work by Gigi Aea

“New Paintings & Textiles” Opens on Saturday, June 2nd

(Camden, ME) Gigi Aea's New Paintings and Textiles opens at Old Salts Gallery in Camden, Maine on Saturday, June 2nd with an artist's reception from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. The paintings featured in this exhibition showcase two powerful sensibilities that foment in Aea’s work. They are a collection of sumi-e ink and pigment pieces on paper categorized by simple shapes and bold color delivered with dynamic, and gestural brush strokes. The textiles, in contrast, are intricate. Painted directly with dye on silk, they are magnificent explosions of color masterfully rendered to reveal opulent, primordial gardens filled with luscious, antediluvian flowers and ooze. In both works there is an inherent abandon. A wildness. Much like in the artist himself. The exhibit runs through Wednesday, June 27th.

Maine Art Scene’s individual artist press release deal is absolutely the best I’ve ever heard of! Since you posted notice of "The Book of Forms" yesterday on your web site and on your Facebook page (which I linked to mine) I’ve heard from more than a dozen people about it, and not all of them are from Maine, either.

Thanks for the existence of Maine Art Scene.

I just wanted to show and share appreciation to the 'Maine Art Scene', especially for its 'Virtual gallery'. An image from one of my paintings is on the cover of The Scene magazine this month thanks to the selection being made by the editor of the magazine after looking through the virtual online art gallery. Thanks to Maine art Scene for all it's creative work.
