IGFF is proud to contribute to the vibrant creative community in one of the country’s most breathtaking locales, DownEast Maine, and specifically around, the Blue Hill Peninsula. For four days, films will be shown from 3:00 to 8:00 pm.
The schedule is:
Thursday, June 16 – Stonington Opera House
Friday, June 17 – Blue Hill Town Hall
Saturday, June 18 – Alamo Theater
Sunday, June 19 – The Grand
During the four days of IGFF, audiences will have the opportunity to view these films, as well as to participate in discussion forums with the filmmakers who will be there to not only promote their films, but to generate a lively exchange of the unique aspects of film as an art form. This will give the filmmakers an intimate forum to voice their unique vision.
In addition to the film screenings and discussion forums, there will be special performances by area musicians and performance artists. For those who enjoy taking in a film under the stars, the student films will be showing one night on a large, blowup screen at the Blue Hill Town Park.

(Belfast, ME) The Belfast Boat House will again resound with toe-tapping, head-nodding music on Friday and Saturday, June 10 and 11 as the Belfast area's own community chorus, the Penobscot Bay Singers, present their 37th pops concert, dubbed "Pops Got Rhythm". The concerts begin at 7:30, and admission is $12.
With popular jazz pianist (and classical/liturgical music director, organist, arranger, etc. ) Rick Dostie conducting from the keyboard, the group will offer hits and lesser-known gems from the 1930's swing era into the 50's. Ballads, jazz, blues and yes, a little bossa nova will be enhanced by veteran bassist, Don Knowles and the young and talented Andy Clifford on drums.
Music by Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Fats Waller, Bobby Troup and Harry Woods (sure, you remember "Paddlin' Madelin' Home" !) will be familiar to many, but arrangements by Rick Dostie of some lesser known ballads such as Jimmy Kennedy's and Hugh William's "Red Sails in the Sunset" and Irving Berlin's "Be Careful, It's My Heart" are likely to become favorites. And then there's "Princess Poopooly Has Plenty Papaya"! The varied pieces will be presented by the full chorus, soloists, duets and ensembles. And yes, there's usually room in the back if an urge to dance proves strong. Refreshments will be served at the break.
The Penobscot Bay Singers, closing their 37th season, draw their membership from all over Waldo County and occasionally beyond. They offer three concerts each year: two classical/liturgical as well as the pops. The 38th season will begin in September. Voice placement auditions will be announced in August. While member dues and concert income help defray the costs of good direction, accompaniment and some music, it is not enough to support a full season or the use of guest instrumentalists. Because the Singers wish to support the broader music community and to continue to offer varied and well-performed music to our area, they invite donations. PBS is a 501(c)(3) organization, so donations are tax-exempt. For more information, write PBS, PO Box 5, Belfast, Maine 04915.
