(Image: Panorama of Art of Salvage Exhibit - Photo by Eric Hovermale) McLaughlin was well known as a prolific artist in metal and wood, an ingenious designer and builder, a passionate collector and a creative rigger of all things. His exquisite attention to detail, aesthetic sense and work ethic informed his work in all media as well as his collections of many things, most of them rusty and large, with which he created sculptures, tools, living spaces, vehicles and stoves. He loved to solve practical problems big and small, and many contractors, mechanics and artists consulted him for advice and direction. A collection of his sculpture and installations of his live/work spaces are on display at Waterfall Arts’ Clifford Gallery. The last day of David McLaughlin: the Art of Salvage exhibit is Friday, August 24th. The gallery will be open from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm that day and selected tools from the exhibit will be sold at affordable prices.
