(Bangor, ME) KahBang Festival 2012: “The End of the World” takes place August 9 through August 12. Do you know what Chuck Norris thinks about the Mayan Calendar? He doesn’t. Various individuals have interpreted that 2012 will mark the beginning of a new era where the Earth and its inhabitants will begin a physical or spiritual transformation. Some have even tagged 2012 as doomsday, the end of the world. Did the Mayans have it right when they failed to extend their calendar beyond 2012? Or did their calendar maker just get tired of carving tiny symbols into a stone with a chisel made from wood? Either way, we here at KahBang aren’t taking any chances.
KahBang 2012 will be the biggest party of the summer and possibly the last great party we will ever throw. Come experience the next big thing (possibly the last big thing) and rock until your face melts off and your head explodes – before the flying saucers arrive and do it for you.
And if everyone was wrong and in 2013 we are all still here, then maybe we will party again. The prophecies will have come full circle and indeed a new era will have begun. An era where year after year, we are happy to be alive, excited to experience new things and eager to commemorate the end of the world as we knew it.
KahBang is an annual summer festival, which transforms Bangor, Maine into the largest music, art and film showcase in New England. KahBang is about discovery; we showcase emerging talents and rediscover classic icons. For 4 days, thousands of festival goers descend on Downtown Bangor and the Waterfront Festival Grounds to experience over 75 musicians, dozens of films, art galleries and installations, special events, parties and more.
Founded in 2009, by Tim Lo and Chas Bruns, the festival was a one-day event featuring acts including Matt and Kim, Ra Ra Riot, Ida Maria, April Smith, Royal Bangs, The Gay Blades and The Killing Moon. Over the past three years, KahBang has worked relentlessly to create an event that is ahead of the curve on culture and trends. Before wrapping each festival year, we’ve already begun our search for next year’s talent. Our event is built on the foundation of discovery for the participants and all parties involved. The headliners for the 2010 Music Festival featured viral video icons OK Go, and Hip Hop artist B.o.B. The lineup also included performances by Bad Rabbits, Free Energy and Hey Marseilles, drawing over 7,000 people on the final day of performances. In 2011 KahBang presented its more diverse music lineup with performances by My Morning Jacket, Lupe Fiasco, Atmosphere, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, and Chromeo amongst others. During the KahBang festival, there will be an Artwalk on Friday, August 10th, from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. Kenny Cole will present various works, courtesy of the Sohns Gallery at The Rock & Art Shop, located at 36 Central Street in Bangor. Artwalk maps are available at the University of Maine Museum of Art, The Maine Discovery Museum, Blue Heron, One Lupine Fiber Arts, Metropolitan Soul, Epic Sports, Giacomos, The Rock and Art Shop and other downtown merchants.
