(Saco, ME) Diane Bowie Zaitlin is offering three encaustic workshops this fall in her Saco studio. Artists of many varied backgrounds enjoy Diane’s contemporary approach to this ancient medium of painting with beeswax. Please note the addition of a new advanced class “Encaustic Re-Invention”. Classes are limited to four students and allow for intensive individual attention.
Introductory Classes: October 13 & 14 and November 17 & 18
In this two-day introductory workshop, Diane will teach studio safety, manipulation and texturing of the wax surface, controlling the transparency of the paint, layering, oil stick, collage, and mixed-media. Diane’s approach is one that encourages exploration and individuality. Experienced encaustic painters are also welcome. Each workshop is from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. in Saco, Maine. Cost is $220 and includes most materials. Please email for supply list, registration form, and further details. Pre-registration and deposit are required.
Encaustic Re-Invention: October 27
This is an intensive one-day workshop for experienced encaustic painters. Students will bring in a couple of their own encaustic paintings that are unresolved to be used as a starting point. We will explore various options to invigorate the image while refining their skills with the wax. Students will use additive and reductive methods as well as various collage and transfer techniques. The challenge will be to push the painting to a new level and richness of surface through persistent re-working and layering. Class is from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, the cost is $ 100 and pre-registration is required.
