(Rockland, ME) The screening will take place on Sunday, September 30th at 11:00 am at the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland. Artist David Driskell and Director Richard Kane will present the film. This event is sponsored by the Union of Maine Visual Artists Maine Masters Project and the screening is part of Dirigo Shorts.

David Driskell: In Search of the Creative Truth is a story about one of today’s most important artists and leading authorities on African American art. In it, he implores the artist to search for the creative truth, “til his or her dying day”. The film explores the influence of Driskell's mentor, Romare Bearden, and the creative collaboration between the artist and his master printmaker, Curlee Holton. Driskell's powerful works pull from abstract expressionism, African masks, Coptic art, modernism, cubism – a history of art in the works of this wise and gentle man. Also appearing will be co-producers Peggy Greenhut Golden of Greenhut Galleries and Bruce Brown, Curator Emeritus, CMCA.

“(The Driskell) film is absolutely wonderful—there are many different layers ... integrated beautifully — and Driskell’s comments are really stirring.”
Margaret Parson, National Gallery of Art Film Program Director

About the Maine Masters
The Maine Masters Project is an award-winning video series sponsored by the Union of Maine Visual Artists, a not-for-profit educational organization established in 1975 with three chapters meeting monthly. The Maine Masters Project was begun in 1999 and has created an ongoing series of profiles of some of Maine’s most distinguished and often less recognized visual artists who articulate the importance of art making. There are currently twelve completed DVDs (see Artist DVDs) with eight more in production. A consistent theme throughout the videos is that art making enhances our culture by encouraging people to think and feel more deeply.
