(Belfast, ME) On Saturday, October 6th at 7:00 pm Left Bank Books will be delighted to welcome former Belfast Poet Laureate Elizabeth Garber to an evening of poetry reading, as she launches her newest collection called True Affections: Poems from a Small Town. This long-anticipated third book of poetry continues her lyric exploration of a life well-lived in Maine. Garber is a master poet, whose poems are grounded in distinctive life moments in a town, on islands, from childhood. She captures a variety of voices that delve into the precarious nature of our time, and the importance of connecting and loving, fearlessly. Garber is the author of two other collections of poetry: Pierced by the Seasons (2004) and Listening Inside the Dance (2005). Three of her poems have been read by Garrison Keillor on NPR's "The Writer's Almanac," and her poem "Feasting" was included in his anthology Good Poems for Hard Times. As 2006 Poet Laureate of Belfast, she coordinated monthly poetry readings, and wrote a weekly poetry column published in three mid-coast papers highlighting Maine poets. Garber is founder of the The Illuminated Sea Press, which encourages the independent publishing of fine Maine poets. She is one of the original organizers of the Belfast Poetry Festival and The Poetry and Art Walk, fostering the collaboration of artists and poets in our community. Please join us for a wonderful evening of poetry, as Elizabeth Garber reads with intimate insight into the passages of the Maine seasons. All are welcome and refreshments will be offered. For more information, or to reserve a copy of True Affections, please call 207-338-9009 or stop by Left Bank Books located at 109 Church Street in Belfast. |
