Bob Rogers (Arrowsic, ME)

My interest in nature has always been the main force behind my photography. I became seriously interested in photography soon after moving to Utah to attend college. At first, I was drawn to photograph the wide open landscapes of the Colorado Plateau and the rugged western mountains. But soon, I began to focus less on the broader landscape and more on the elements, or details, of the landscape -- such as a cluster of boulders or a group of spent pine cones. These details of the natural world, or “intimate landscapes” to borrow a term from Eliot Porter, have been the principal subject matter of my photography for more than 35 years. I have always worked in color. I commonly photograph subjects close to home and frequently find myself working, consciously or otherwise, on several ongoing series or themes. The photos submitted to this exhibition represent two of those – “decomposition composed” and “nature in grays and browns.”
