JIM NICKELSON (Camden, ME)

My desire to photograph within the landscape is driven by my love and fascination for the beauty and complexity of the natural world. By producing these works, I hope to communicate this love and fascination to viewers and to continue to explore my own relationship with nature. Of particular interest to me when photographing the natural world is attempting, via composition, to focus on the details of texture, lines, and shape of the land. This focus allows me to highlight both the diversity of those elements across the landscape as well as the similarities that exist in disparate regions of the American landscape ranging from the luminous canyons of the Colorado plateau and the lush, rugged Northeast. I utilize the aspects of different lighting conditions and a more abstract, square format to attempt to emphasize the variances and commonalities between these different landscapes
