(Bar Mills, ME) On Friday, August 25 at 7:30 pm, Kerrville New Folk winner John John Brown will bring giant comics and iconic photographs to Saco River Theatre. Songs, Stories, & Art – Lessons from Strangers is an original project that weaves together storytelling songs and the visual arts in a live performance.
Throughout the concert, Brown takes the listener inside the lives of fourteen unique characters, while strumming his guitar and singing beside a projected graphic story. Unfolding is an imaginative and colorful world revealing the idea that all people, strangers alike, have a story we can learn from. The protagonists come from all walks of life: from an aging Vietnam Vet to a trumpet playing orphan, a married couple debating evolution, to a young man with mental illness wandering the aisles of Walmart. Steeped in good storytelling and finger-picking melodies, John John Brown seems to have discovered part of the mystery that surrounds the great singer/songwriter tradition.
“An imaginative musical performance woven into a unique visual experience.” – Gallery 25
“A melting pot of humor, longing, satire, and hope, Brown invites us to explore the peculiar lives of individuals that, like us, don’t always have it easy but manage to persist despite life’s impending trials.” – Music Mecca
“So well written that every song could be a short story, a treat for lovers of narrative-driven tales.” – Americana UK
