"Prom Dress" by Tabitha BarnardOn The Verge Opens at Creative Portland Art Gallery Brenda Bonneville, editor October 20, 2018 (Portland, ME) Over twenty artists have been selected for Creative Portland’s upcoming juried art exhibition, On The Verge. The exhibit opens on October 25, 2018 and runs through April 2019. On the Verge will also be a part of the First Friday Art Walk on Friday, November 2 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. This group art show represents established and emerging artists from Greater Portland, and will feature paintings, photography, prints, drawings, and mixed-media work. All artwork will be for sale. About the On the Verge Exhibition For Creative Portland’s third juried exhibition, Executive Director Dinah Minot assembled a volunteer curatorial team of professionals, recruiting a stellar group of curators from arts organizations including: Kate Anker, Running With Scissors; Jamie DeSimone, Portland Museum of Art; Cooper Dragonette, artist; Michel Droge, artist; Danielle Frye, Dorothea & Leo Rabkin Foundation; Jen McDermott, University of Southern Maine Photography Department; Dinah Minot, Creative Portland; and John Ripton, UMVA Gallery. The eclectic group of exhibitors, including old Mainers and new Mainers alike, range from emerging artists in their 20s to established artists from Greater Portland. The final list of artists will be revealed at a private reception on October 24th and will include: Salazar (Biddeford); Alicia Ethridge, Laurie Fisher, Jenny La Macchia Campbell (Cape Elizabeth); Diane Dahlke (Cumberland Center); Erin McGee Ferrell (Falmouth); Tabitha Barnard, Andy Bustin, Will Byers, Karolyn Greenstreet, Larry Hayden, Megan Jones, Lin Lisberger, Larinda Meade, Elijah River, Steven Walsh (Portland); Catherine Callahan (South Portland); and Jamie Wing (Westbrook). “Hello, Friend” by Elijah River “Kings Blue and Navy” by Laurie Fisher “Athena Disguises Herself As An Old Man And Appears To The Suitors” by Catherine Callahan With the theme of “on the verge” as the subject for the open call, Ms. Minot and the curatorial team asked artists throughout Greater Portland to address that question. The eclectic and promising response from over 100 artists with at least 225 submissions, answered the call with images ranging from abstract paintings, representational scenes, and explicit photographs.
