(Rockland, ME) The Starlight Lodge – a boutique hotel located in the heart of the mid-coast and the “Art Capital of Maine” – is hosting a drop in, open air sculpture exhibition featuring large mixed media works by celebrated Maine artist Charles Duvall through December, 2020. The exhibition is open daily during daylight hours and no reservations are needed. The event is complimentary to the public and is children and leashed dog friendly.

Artist Charles Duvall

Duvall, whose work is collected internationally and is displayed at the Farnsworth Museum, is known for his tensed fabric works as well as other thrusts in jewelry, sculpture and mixed media. Duvall was invited to speak at The Louvre Museum in Paris and has completed commission works for public institutions as well as private collectors all over America.

About the Exhibition

The exhibition will showcase ”The Duvall Celestial Trees-Series”, a 5 piece collection of monoliths in painted metal, rock, and stenciled poetry (written by Duvall). The pieces include: “Celestial Tree No. 1,”, “Angel”, “Little Guy”, Space Frontier”, and “Music of the Spheres”. These pieces celebrate color, geometry and post modern interpretations of light and dimension with forceful primitive elements including iron bars and Maine river basin rocks.

The Starlight Lodge at Rockport Harbor also has a Duvall Stargazer Pavilion and an original sculpture by Duvall entitled “Starburst” on its grounds. Both are also available for viewing during the exhibition.

Like other small, tourist-oriented businesses in 2020, the Starlight Lodge at Rockport Harbor was hard hit by the COVID impact. But in true Mainer fashion, the lodge doubled down with this much needed and forward thinking fresh air art exhibition, celebrating new works.
